The idea was to leave them wrapped until I showed up at your place Rinny to install them but now I think I’m rethinking my thinking :hand:

Just so you are aware.
There are already holes in the frame rails with welded nuts in them.
They are for the running board mounting brackets.

Should make fabbing up mounts for those rails easy.

Thanks for the heads up. For as much time as I have under this van I can honestly say I’ve never noticed that. I’ve seen these particular models installed using unistrut from the rear spring hanger to the front clip. Anyway it’s been documented already but I’ll try to take a pic or two

Ya know... If you are going through all this trouble you may consider a nice hard weld to hold those suckers on, as opposed to just the running board zircs. Whhhyyyy you may ask??
This is why...

And it went from that to being #1 in fewest deaths/million.
In 2007, the IIHS reported that the 2001–2004 model year Chevrolet Astro recorded during calendar years 2002–2005 the least number of killed drivers of all passenger vehicles in the United States, as calculated per every million units on the road.

Actually 03 to 05 are GEN3, i don't know about any structural changes that would affect this result, but I'm no expert.
The point of failure in this video is where the subframe meets the uni body 'frame'.on my van i plan to tie the cradle to the forward rear shackle hanger via box steel, then drill in a few collapse zones further back to save my legs in an accident. No idea how well it would work though.

Mock up the rails yet?

Sorry I missed this. I was just going back thru old posts and found this. I haven’t mocked up the rails yet. The twin Torsen thing kinda jumped to the front of the line and now I’m sidelined with this pesky overheating issue. But the rails are in the van and on the list of things to do. Im thinking of maybe using 1”x3” steel tube bolted front and rear and welding rails to that. Still looking things over but hope to jump on it soon

Our vans have "frame stops" attached to the body that are designed to prevent the front subframe from pushing back in a collision. When lifting the body, the frame stops attached to the body are usually then too high to prevent this. You could shim the the frames stops with proper length blocks and longer bolts to re-position but no guarantee the longer bolts won't shear.

So ya it sounds like tying the front and rear together might be a good idea. I do remember reading the aforementioned stat about lowest highway deaths belonging to our vans. Maybe because they were so slow and unwieldy that you weren’t temped to go all Evil Kinevle?
