interchangable slider doors

interchangable slider doors

Postby astrohutt [OP] » April 22nd 2018, 1:26am

What year slider doors are interchangeable for my 1995 astro cargo? Want to change from a solid door to one with a window for visibility. Thanks

Actually there were changes in the rear hinge roller and latch pin during the 96-97 model years that make interchange limited to 85-95, & 97-05. The biggest clue will be if the rear hinge roller is welded on (85-95) or bolted (97-05). 96 was the transition year and could go either way.

I found a door but on the rear portion the slotted opening that the post locks into when closing is smaller or narrower. The existing door has a wider opening for the post to engage when closing. Is this the difference you mentioned?

That is part of it.
It would show the difference between the single pin latch and the double pin latch.
If you look close you will see that it is also in a slightly different spot.

95 would have the welded on rear hinge roller like all 1st gen.
That would be the important part to determine if it will interchange.

I'm not sure how to upload pictures that I took.
Not sure what you mean by welded rear roller.
There are three holes below the rear post catch.
New here,[img][gallery][img][/img][/gallery][/img] how do you upload a picture?

This is the rear of the slider on my 1995 astro cargo currently and it indeed has the welded roller.
Looks like I bought a window door for the later model astro.
Bummer, nice straight door that I didn't have to paint. DOH!

Here is the difference between sliding door's, there was a 1997 mid year split posted by sadglad in a thread in 2015. I did the opposite to my cargo, replace the window door with a solid one.

Thanks, I know the solid doors do look better as well as solid rear barn doors too if your looking for that smoother exterior, but i am looking for visibility and being able to see whats coming when pulling into traffic. And also having a side window when camping to look outside. Limo tint gives it good privacy and sun blocking.
