While I have NOT looked at Chevy's video post - I still wonder about the Question - "Galvanized".
FYI - Randy is a Real Good painter himself - does it ALL in his basement.

Maybe this post will help too:

Thank you both.
The galvanized , as i understand it, was a process used on the sheet metal by GM to prevent rust.
But this had the side effect of making paint fall off like it has a fashion statement.

Just to offer easier options:

OOPs #2 is wrong wrap... I wrapped my van several years ago with Vinyl from Amazon and it still looks good. Took me and my daughter 2 days. The front fender was a test run with wrong batch of vinyl. Shade off just a little. So if you try vinyl buy all you need at one time. Don't buy in batches even if same shade from same vendor.

Now That is a cool wrap on the van and trailer - kinda' looks stock and unpretentious.
Almost like it is not even there.
And I have seen - "wrap is tough". Prep is agony. Results are anticlimactic.

Thank you much.

The big issue you run into with the GM galvanized layer, is what I call zinc pops. Meaning something got under the zinc layer (stone chips, and or grease/oil when being done). Once this happens, the galvanized layer will continue to cause the paint/primer layer to keep trying to lift sections of OE paint off. This was a real problem for GM in the late 80's thru the mid 90's when auto manufactures were switching to water based primers and paints, as they wouldn't grab to the galvanized layer of the metal (Chrysler had this problem as well).
About the only thing one can do however is sand and repaint the vehicle. Sorry.

All I did was bondo a couple bad dents, lightly sand smooth the peeling clear coat then wipe down the whole van with alcohol. I forgot to mention that from the bottom line of the windows up is bedliner. Some masking and several cans of the stuff. That was one day by itself. Overall four rather easy days. Oh the trailer came black...can't take credit for that. Been around for a "few" years and remember the recall from GM on the peeling white paint. Was a rather big deal when it first came out. Nice to get a total repaint though.
