Wipers dead on my 95.

Wipers dead on my 95.

Hey everyone!
I've been trying to get my wipers working. They just quit one day.
Researched old posts and found the control board is usually the problem. I re-soldered the connections by the plug and still no go so I ordered a new one. Still nothing.
I checked the prongs on the back of the board that plug into the actual motor. (see pic) There is voltage on different prongs with different wiper settings. Two are hot on high, on on low etc. So I'm assuming that the actually motor is bad?
Also the motor is not grounded. I held a ground to the body of the motor but that didn't help. The black wire on the plug is grounded, is that the only ground?
Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

if you run your VIN, you may learn your van is subject to a GM recall for wiper failure. My 1995 shows as needing the repair, and "incomplete" as of yet.

Hey Augidog. My vin come back as not valid or older than 94. I don't want to know lol. Thanks for trying.
I don't mind getting a motor if it needs it, I just don't want to if it's just some weird ground problem or something.

Are you able to access a JY so your costs are minimal during the testing/diag. phase?
You say you worked on the board - did you do the "solder reflow thingie" ?
Upstream stuff OK ? - wires, fuses, probably everything you have already mentioned...

Just trying to distract myself / help somewhere here.
Oh - I have drawings here if you need - please, let me know.

Please.

Hey Sixsix. Super grateful you're winning to help, bored or not!
I found a wiring diagram for the wipers that I think Leann shared. I think everything upstream is good.
I soldered the board and then bought a new board too when that didn't work. Power all the way to the back of the board where the three prongs plug into the actual motor.
My local junk yard does have an Astro, I just want to see if I'm missing something obvious first.

I suppose you could try to ohm out the windings in the motor just to feel better about it.

Thanks, I should have tried that. I was expecting a short circuit but it pegs out the ohm meter when it's hooked to either positive slot and the ground. I had hesitated to do this but I tried hooking power straight to one of the positive slots and it sparked like it was being touched to a ground.
I guess the motor is seized or shorted out so at least I have a direction to go.
Off to the junkyard on Monday.

Keep in mind those wiper motors were used in several different GM models ( complete with the usual phantom wipe problem), so they should be easy to find. I've got one out of a 93 S-15 right now in my 88 Astro.

Good to know that different models use that same motor.
I took the motor assembly out to take it to the junkyard with me and it was locked up tight. Took the bottom off the motor and saw that water had gotten into it.

Sprayed a bunch of PB Blaster in it, wiped it out, put it back together and voila it works! It rattles like hell but it runs.
Of course I'm still going to the junkyard to get one because it's not going to last but good to nail down the problem.
Thanks fellers!
