What is this vent for?

What is this vent for?

Postby rstro [OP] » July 7th 2020, 1:23pm

Anyone know what this vent is for? It’s located on the body behind the sliding door.

I found a leak somewhere in this vicinity, nothing to do with the vent, but I am thinking of completely sealing this thing. I’m building out my van as a camper so I don’t want any holes/vents that could let water get behind the walls.

I believe it's just flow-through vent for the interior and it helps with sealing the door shut.
Sealing off that vent may make it harder to close the door and get a proper seal.

its also part of the air flow to stop moisture from building up on inner body panels. Not sure if it works by design but I read in a body manual that was part of the reasoning behind it. Mark

I've seen a diagram of the body air flow system, and cannot remember where. I flipped almost every page of my FSM's but no dice. I'm not sure sealing it off is a good idea, because I'm almost certain it also sheds air from the engine compartment. corrections welcome.

I'm almost certain it also sheds air from the engine compartment.

Really?
This is a vent next to the sliding door. I'm not sure I want that vent exhausting air from the engine component into the van.
Maybe I wrong but this doesn't sound right to me.

you may completely disregard what I said, clearly memory is not serving me correctly. I went to the van and looked, which I should have done before posting, and there are no mating openings on any of the doors.

of course, now I'll go nuts trying to remember what diagram it was I saw, IF I even really saw one.

Hopefully, someone who really knows will chime in and help us all understand what the vent is for :-)

From Google: The jamb vents are to the inside of where the door seals seal to the body. They are for flow-through ventilation for the interior.

Yeah, with the way the pic is oriented - it was hard to tell where it was... oh well.

Yup... you are right! I am VERY upset - everyone should be.

What a waste of time and effort.

"Have to click on the photo to see how the OP wanted it"...
What a joke.

Nobody here knows. Period.

You seem upset. It seems after a certain event you have been upset and it has been reflecting in your posts. I don't understand why you are being so pessimistic to everyone when it has nothing to do with them.

You know the forum has picture problems and that it has nothing to do with the OP.

The only way to find out if nobody knows is by asking and it's not like we can just ask the engineers that designed the van.

To the OP: I agree with bradaskins. It just makes the most sense. You could always pull the cover off and see where it leads.

Is that the owners manual for the conversion van or the stock van? My owners manual is different than yours.

supposed to be an exact authorized repro. seems legit, dunno if true, but no reason to doubt. it's nicely made.

hey, wait a doggone minute. I just realized it's on the exterior side of the weatherstripping. my mind had it going in the wrong direction. the diagram isn't very helpful. I checked and there is a duct behind it, built into the body, where to or from I do not know. I don't see anything obvious inside my (conversion) interior. don't think I'd seal it without knowing.

Yes,
Mine is on the outside of the weatherstripping, so it is an exhaust for stale interior air.
The diagram posted shows the make up air coming from the forward vents.

but it appears to show the air exiting the interior into that vent, not out through it. in other words, the vague diagram is useless from a technical perspective. I can't find any place, vents or grills, on the interior, that would enter the ductwork in the body and then exit out slider's vent.
