Remove License Plate / Rear Door Handle

Hi folks,

I want to remove my license plate and got into some trouble I can't really handle. I removed every cover on the rear door to access the mounting nuts and finally detach the handle assembly from the door. Haynes Repair Manual and all Youtube-content that I could found show different settings than my Astro Van from 1998.

Two pictures are added below..

Do I have to simply push the metal sticks out of the white rings?
If I do so, will these rings break for sure?
If so, is it easy to get some new ones, because these rings could be standard for other vehicles as well?

You're doing the rear door handle, is that right? If so -
1 - yes
2 - ye3 - probably not, new door handles come with new nylon inserts though....

Remove the license plate? there should be 2 screws through the plate -take them out and that's what hold the plate on.
As for the door handle you should be able to buy a pack of them white things the rods go into. They do break easily when you take the rods out. Please explain what your goal is here?

^ they meant license plate holder, since a German plate doesn't fit in there.
