Cargo door window parts compatibility?

Cargo door window parts compatibility?

Postby Tremelune [OP] » November 11th 2008, 12:27am

My sliding cargo door window got smashed on Halloween, and I'm trying to source another one. I ended up riveting a steel plate in there to keep out varmints, but the blind spot is annoying. I've put an ad out in the "Wanted" section, but I'd like to broaden the search.

Does anyone know what model years have this same window? I would prefer tinted, but I don't care. I had no luck at the junkyards in the area (NYC). Is there an easy way to figure out the part number? It's a 1996 Astro, non-extended.

Hell, I'd replace the whole door, but my main goal is low costs.

Anything from a 96 and up should work OK. They changed the design of the door roller supports in 96 and doors made previously to that can be made to work but it will take some rework of the guides and attachments.

As far as the glass there are two categories and three types. Privacy glass used prior to 93/94 was slightly lighter and different in tint, along with clear glass (lighty tinted, same as driver's door). Then there is glass that is the "pop-out" type, it has hinge plates at the top and latches at the bottom, the other is the fixed glass which is typical in cargo vans and is glued in. You can use the pop-out type (which will probably be easier to find) in a cargo van, just make sure that you get all of the hardware when you buy the glass, assuming that you pick it up from the wreckers.

The window is like the one above the word "Fire" (this isn't my car):

I didn't think I'd need a window, but it is a pretty fair blind spot. Mostly inconvenient.
