Mooneyes Japan retro Astro

Mooneyes Japan retro Astro

Postby 356redux [OP] » January 18th 2013, 5:58am

Many years ago I saw this bad boy at the SEMA show but never saw it again. I have searched for it over the years but to no avail. I saw this thing before the internet and unfortunately didn't have any pics of it. I stumbled on these pics and it is just as awesome as I remember. I wish I had another Astro just to do a cool retro ride like this one. I sure some of you old school vanners will love this one. Enjoy.

It is dated now. But side pipes and cragers together was always one of my favorites.

It's not dated, it's "retro". all you need is an afro and some sideburns and your good to go.

Anyone know what the two chrome things are on the back doors?? Wonder if its for aero, or just decoration.

Spoilers to get rid of the suction behind the van. They work they did test in wind tunnels. They are worth 2-3 MPG if they are aligned correctly. I looked but I can't find the test. Station wagons came with them factory. The end piece of chrome on the luggage rack wasn't just for looks.

I have never been too thrilled about the color theme, but have always wondered about all the modifications that were done to the van. I just can't find any good info on it.

I do believe it has (or had) a v8 in it.

I wish I could get some higher resolution images of it. Would use them for my background.

I could, probably very easily, make my van look like that. I'd have to go with a different color scheme though.

If anybody has any info on everything that has been done to the van, please share with us.

This van just plain rocks...I would, however, feel compelled to blast some Deep Purple while cruising with a "fog" machine coughing up some smoke into the interior.
