Gas filler door

Gas filler door

Postby VET1964 [OP] » August 12th 2012, 12:17am

:driving: I just replaced my filler door on my 94 Astro. The door was held shut by a makeshift spring when I bought it. Because the cable assembly was frozen and the door part of the latch system was broken off. I removed the old door and plastic around
the filler tube and then serviced the door holder latch with light pray lub. I made sure to spray lub down the cable assy. I also sparyed lub. on and under the release handle up front. I guess the prior owner never sprayed a little lub. in the latch opening and it froze up so he had to pop it open and broke the door latch. A little WD40 (once in a while) can go along way to keep from having to replace the whole fuel door and latch assembly if your trying to keep the van original.

Merely replace the door and hinge assy with a gen 2 like item. Chevy re-engineered the door to fit the same hole, stay

shut w/o the latch, and to stay open while refueling. Check out your local JY for OEM replacement parts.
