Front Licence Plate Attachment

Front Licence Plate Attachment

Postby astro99 [OP] » August 18th 2013, 6:04pm

Hi, All: Just bought a nice 96 Astro, very nice. However, its never had a front licence plate(it was a GSA/government vehicle). There are no holes in the front licence area, its smooth plastic, and it's very hard to seen that area because of the front air dam. Does anyong know if there are factory mounting points under the plastic? Approx where?

I believe that the normally have those square snap in insert into square holes in the plastic bumper cover only.

Something like this http://www.521restorations.com/images/l ... screws.jpg

In the HELP RACK they have replacement mounts: square outside with round inside. You just have to drill the outer cover to insert them. The bolt widens the inner part holding the plate in place.

Thanks Consealed and Wayne. You were both right, in fact there is a whole factory drilled for those snap-in fittings. When looking under the air dam I saw the 2 large holes in the plate area but didn't make the connection they were too big for plate bolts, and it was near impossible to reach under the back ot the bumper to get a nut on. I preped to drill some holes for self tapping screws in the metal bumper, then I saw 2, very faint dimples in plastic trim covering the bumper. I drilled them and they lined up perfectlly w/ the holes I had seen from underneath, and they appear to be the perfect size for the plastic clips you both mentioned. Thanks for all the help
