1990 GMC Safari

1990 GMC Safari

Postby ColBlake [OP] » September 22nd 2013, 7:18pm

Our car's tranny burned up on the way to L.A. in the middle of nowhere. Found this GMC in the Greenup, Illinois area.
Full power, new tires, generally everything works. Maybe a few tweaks here and there. Just sunk some green into the emissions system due to Cali smog check. Long Beach Auto Body will be doing the bump & paint work. It will be in the original white minus the stripes.

The plan is to convert it into an RV.

Engine runs great. Going to get rid of the running boards. Anyone in the SoCal area care to take 'em off our hands?
You are welcome to them.

We look forward to any and all suggestions from AstroSafari folks. This is going to be interesting as we have never restored a vehicle before.

Anyone know where we can get two fold down seats that convert to a bed? Ours are the standard passenger seats.

Thanks all!

Seats like that are from conversion vans. In my neck of the woods they are fairly common. Look in the scrapyards. I have seen 4 sets pass through over the years.

You have the makings a one fantastic van there...I love the gen 1 shorty's (as I have a 94)...

Please post pictures of her once she is done....

And for those seats, does anyone have pictures of what they look like? I too would be interested in a set but I know for sure the local pick and pull is empty right now....
