Rubber Bumpers turned to sticky goo

Rubber Bumpers turned to sticky goo

Postby N6KB [OP] » September 27th 2013, 8:19pm

The Rubber Bumpers that the front doors push against when they are closed have turned to a messy glob of black goo. I'd like to find a source of replacements. I'd also like to know if this is common, and if there is a specific cause, such as exposure to some cleaning agent or solvent that could be avoided to prevent it from happening. Or is it just weather and age that does it?

Mine did that on my '04, I picked a bunch of good ones for spares at j/y when transfer case hunting. Seems like the earlier models hold up better than later years, wonder if they changed the rubber compound/supplier at some point?
