Door lock cylinder popped out, how do I keep it in?

Postby DownByTheRiver [OP] » October 11th 2013, 11:25pm

Someone smashed a side window and used a screwdriver to half-way pop out the door lock cylinder on the driver's side door.

I can still use my key to open the door, but after driving for a while the cylinder starts to vibrate enough to almost fall out.

Should I use some type of super glue, or is there a special way to fix it?

There is a retainer that keeps the lock in the door. It may have fallen off or got damaged and may have fallen inside on the bottom of the door.

It should look like #31 in this diagram:

http://www.genmotorinfo.com/Picture.aspx?Make=Chevrolet&Model=Astro&Year=1999&SubModel=AWD&SectionID=16&SectionDesc=CAB%20AND%20BODY%20PARTS,%20WIPERS,%20MIRRORS,%20DOORS,%20TRIM,%20SEAT%20BELTS&PicDesc=DOOR+HARDWARE%2fSIDE+FRONT+-+LM+&pid=051004TM16-464

You will have to remove the interior panel to access it. Trying to use any glue will just make more of a mess and may do damaged to the inside parts or the window track.

Trick is, you have to access the inside of the door.
