slider door

Postby ghostrider1061 [OP] » August 8th 2009, 12:42am

i am not very smart when it comes to body mods. what i am thinking about doing is turning my doors into gull wings. can i use pinao hinges or strap hinges a the top of my doors and weld them on to acheive my first items? or do i need some kind of kit? i know that i will need some type of lifting device like what you find on hatchbacks and on some deck lids. i want to know if i am looking to get in over my head. my asyro is a 87 2wd, if that helps. :feedback:

to do a true gullwing door u must cut the roof sorta like a t-top to the middle weld the roof cutouts to the top of the doors. they sell hinge kits but piano hinges might work. the key is bracing the middle under the roof for support. i am currently considering rehinging my slider door that i have gullwinged with piano hinges. not enough support metal was put under the roof. im trying to come up with a better hinge setup also since the piano is visible in the gap when the door is shut. also hard to paint in a tight space. looking for a cleaner install. so just take your time or pay a fabricator just make sure he knows the deal. good luck!!

here are the only pics i have. never really took any of the work in progress. like i said ive decided to redo it because i think i can get the door to lift higher and reposition the struts so there basically straight up when open and not in the way so u dont have to duck under em. ill def keep an update on the redo that way nobody else has to experiment like ive had to.
