Another member and myself were talking about them so I am posting some pics of mine.

I took them off due to rust and hitting something and doing this to the fender

So they need some repairs that I haven't built the confidence to try yet. I have never worked with fiberglass so any tips or tricks would be fine by me

No tips or tricks here, but I just wanted to say without the running boards you Van would have more rust then it does. My Astro didn't have running boards and its all rust. My Safari did(I took them off) and it has way less rust issues. Both of them have always been kept in WI too.

tips for fiberglass

use a respirator or at least particle mask when sanding.
put on more than you think you will need and sand it down to the rough shape
all glass needs a top coat of bondo or filler putty to be smooth. dont ruin your sanding arm trying to make the glass shape
dont put either puttys on paint.
dont let the putty ever get thicker than 1/8th inch total
dont put more than 1/16th between coats of putty.(hard to do so put more and sand down)
thin multiple coats will be more flexible with weather and climate changes and reduce cracking later
