driver door stress cracks

driver door stress cracks

Postby paulbot [OP] » September 30th 2014, 2:55am

Developed some stress cracks on the door right behind the hinges, noticed after putting new hing pins and guides in. Anyone attempt to weld them up, I'm thinking repair the stress crack, make a few good tack welds on the hinges for a little extra strength.

Make a plate of similar sheet metal to bridge the crack. 1/2 inch on each side is good. So you are welding to good metal. It is already fatigued there and the weld will melt it or it will crack next to the new weld.

Thanks. Guess it would help if that fat slob wouldn't hurl the door open 20 times a day for 14 years....
