Sliding door lock actuator

My sliding has a problem completely unlocking when the whether get cold. If fact it moves the lock mechanism 85% of the way and then I have to reach in from the passenger front opening to manually complete the door open.

Is that indicative of a weak solinoid? Works fine when weather is warmer.

What is part number for that actuator? Is it the same as the ones used in the front doors?

I agree that the cold does have an effect and slows the solenoid as well as the rest of the lock mechanism is it has not been lubricated. Had the same issue with another vehicle. Lubed everything and was back in business. I did end up replacing the solenoid anyway since the panel was off. Part would be approx 40 dollars for an aftermarket parts store for a parts store brand.

I tried to lube everything earlier in the season hoping to have fixed the problem. But still getting stuck. Either I missed the crucial part or I need a new solenoild.

Make sure the contacts are clean and bright too.

I have always had this same problem. Would a laps have the solenoid? Are they symetrical in all doors? Maybe rockauto would have it cheaper?

I don't know the reason they call it a "solenoid" because it isn't. It is actually a reversable dc motor (check out

the picture and you will see a metalic cover on the middle right side. That is the where the motor parts are

located. Any way, believe it or not, you can take the assembly apart enough to clean out the goo and dirt

that accumulates over the years inside the case. Just be careful taking the case apart, it's plastic. If you

break it, you were going to replace it anyway...I guess.

So unkie Bob, I recently had the sliding door panel off (some of it anyway). Where is this offending plastic motor located. I had to remove the window mount to dig in there. Does that sound right?

Is the fleabay link I put up there correct if I trash something?

THE actuator will be at the end of the rod connected to the (lever) red/black plastic door lock used

to manually lock/unlock the sliding door latch.

I do believe that all the motor/actuators are alike.

You will have to remove the lower door trim panel for access.

So once I am in at it what is the crud to clean out? Inside the unit itself?

Any dirt that you find, the caked grease from factory installation, clean out and lubricate

the motor bearings, lubricate the actuator mechanism. Put it back together and reinstall

with a nut and bolt. I usually spray the innerds and motor (as well as I can) with either

starting fluid, brake clean, or electronics cleaner, depending on what is on the shelf to hand.

After the soaking, a sho..........t of shop air for good measure.

Thanks for posting up about your lock issue. Mine manifested this issue over the weekend. I couldn't get the door open for anything so ended up removing the right front seat to enter and exit the rear. The kids thought that was funny....but it's sort of odd. Actually, I kind of like it...but you know...the seat has to go back in soon. I will go ahead and rebuild the motor shortly.
