Conversion van windows

Conversion van windows

Postby webcat [OP] » July 2nd 2010, 6:05pm

Anybody ever mod the side slider window?
It would be nice to open the entire window somehow instead of just the little 22" x 7" slider or what ever size it is

No but that is an excellent idea for a mod. I don't know who makes custom window glass but I imagine that it would take a panel with an additional 4 inches under it to attach a slide rail and then ultimately connect it to an X brace so that it can roll up and down like the front windows.

Or an even better idea, maybe it can pop out like a sun roof. Most aftermarket sunroofs have the lever that lets you vent it and then you can release the latch to completely remove it. I imagine that concept couldn't be that much different on the side panels.

Yea , thats what i would like is for it to pop out like a sunroof but no glass at all , or like a concession trailer door that swings open and then would act like a awning.
Problem with that is the side of my van is concave and the concession door is flat.

In that case, you might want to think about the later model express vans that are upfitted with side panels that open.

I suppose that this could be done with a donor van if you cut out the panels, rolled in an inner lip to give it some strength and then hinged it up.

Although you would probably need to have this retrofitted to a window van so that you get a good seal when the panel is closed.

Ted, when I saw your link to the express with the side panels I just about... had a biological reaction. Another year or so and my Express will have enough miles to be up for replacement...
