just damn - smooshed my van

just damn - smooshed my van

Postby ScottS [OP] » May 31st 2008, 4:34pm

crap

I hit a building with my 98.

It pulled out right in front of me I swear.

Don't have any idea how it happened, but it was related to my abs kicking in right when I was stopping in front of the building.

The van looks horrible, but I think I can get it together- mostly the bumper and the hood. The front bar where the hood latches is pushed back about an inch or so, the hood is tweaked back by the hinges.

The intake popped off its rubber grommets and the oil cooler looks like it popped off too Doors and fenders appear to be untweaked.

I may start looking for a 97/98 with a bad motor or trans.
Just damn.

Shoulda pulled the fuse ! I am really upset wth myself now.

Here are the pics

Actually , it is not all that bad , I wil know more once I take it apart. I am going to pull the front apart and hook a winch to the radiator suport and try to pull it back

I will need a bumper cover , the bumper beam, grille , shroud , maybe a radiator (just prices all this stuff $1500 ! )

I bet that building was..

1) talking on the cell phone..
or
2) adjusting makeup...
or
3) eating an egg mcmuffun...
or
4) tuning the radio....
or even
50 paying too much attention to the small noisy buildings in the back seat.

Just goes to show you that building control, MUST be a prioity in future legaslative action!

Good luck on the repairs

Awesome Chops- Thanks !

I sorta yankd and beat things closer to where they are supposed to be so the fan is not rubbing on the shroud anymore , and I can open and close the hood. I may have a rad leak , need to run it for a while to see.

damn buildings. I say you sue the contractor of the building, the ocupants of the building, the city for letting the contractors build there...
you could have a serious lawsuit. I'm sure there is some lawyer out there that would take the case. are you sure your neck isn't bothering you?

Sorry but that's pretty darn funny! The only accident that I ever had was my fault. And I was fiddling fumbling & fooling with stuff the kids were bugging me for... I rear-ended a lawyer in a week-old car. Thank gawd it was long before my Astro though!
Hope you get it fixed!

I did the same thing with my van. I bought it with the ABS doing that but was too lazy to fix it right away. One night pulling into my driveway I rearended my Jeep Wrangler. Didn't damage the Jeep except for a slight tweak to the tire carrier but dented my hood pretty good. The grille and bumper were already smashed when I bought it so no big deal there. I cleaned the sensors the next day and haven't had the problem since.

well the blue van that I bought to fix the red one turns out to be in better shape- but it has a rod knock and metal in the oil. So I am looking at an engine swap between the 97 and the 95. I will be an expert on this when I am done.

Gonna part out the red one . :chevy:
