Need reliable Seattle paint shop recommendaton

Postby JuneauCabbie [OP] » November 1st 2010, 10:40pm

As some of you may know, my beautiful '01 Astro taxi van was rear-ended last Friday, and I know that it will be totalled, since the first estimate I got exceeds the book value of the rig by $5,000.

That means I will have to buy a new van, and there aren't any Astros or Safaris on the market here in SE Alaska. If I can't find one the right color for my taxi livery, it will have to be painted before it gets shipped to Juneau. I need a recommendation or recommendations for a good high quality Seattle area auto paint shop with reasonable prices so I can get a ballpark figure to give to the at-fault driver's insurance company. Location can be anywhere from Olympia to Everett.

And, yes, I'm OK, though the car is now a parts car.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Millen Auto Body in Redmond, WA. Just had my van repaired there after some asshole merged into me. My boss recommended them to me after he had 3 cars repaired there. They mix and blend the paint, not just order the can and spray. The matched my 10 year old up just perfectly!

I know the full price to fix my van was ~$2100. I don't know the cost to paint a full vehicle, mine was paid through the other guy's insurance.

Well, those guys do work the right way, but it ain't cheap. They told me a full color change, inside & out, would cost $14-$16,000 and take 3 to 4 months. Somehow, I don't think I could sell that to Geico. :violin:

Oh, and he pointed out that the value of the vehicle declines drastically because of a color change.

It sure does sound like the paint shop I'd want doing my work, though. And he drives an Astro! :driving:

That paint estimate does indeed sound insane.

A $15,000 paint job will lower the value of a $5,000 vehicle?

For $15K you can buy a white van, drive it to Phoenix, and have one of our
many, friendly autobody amigos paint it for $1500, and have enough left
over to take me out for enchiladas and margaritas.
