I sandblasted and wire wheeled the frame for inspection . No cracks or breaks but some welding of track bar mount and new bump-stop plates etc .

I have used this on three different vehicles and it holds up real well .

All cleaned up .

Parts going o , new red head steering box , moof 880 springs , Bilstein shocks and all new bushings etc .
6F21C051-0018-4F00-9497-955FFF720347.jpeg
New break lines and hoses , almost done .
D5D087C7-A2F8-4125-8F4A-7169A970F519.jpeg
All done , at this point covid hit and I received a call that my new motor build at the local speed shop wasn’t going to happen .
D1651475-0695-4003-8E2A-8A3CE1CB6E60.jpeg
So I gave in and purchased a crate motor from blueprint engines . I have a ford motor from them that’s awesome so I had no worry’s making this order other than the price ! Lol
707D42EB-5C8A-4383-89F3-346F100D3E69.jpeg
I chose a simple 350 with vortec heads , roller cam , hei and 600 carb for the break in ! Dyno showed 368 hp and 384 tq so it should get the heavy van rolling but not be to thirsty . I used the stock v6 accessory drive with new alt , ac comp etc stock ac hose even fit with a little bending . I did the coolant bypass to prevent hot spots in the heads so I get heat real fast and the ac will freeze you out .plan was to go holly terminator efi but it runs so good with the carb . That’s all for now .

Looks good. Reminds a lot of my 88 Astro, right down to the manual windows. Unfortunately, mine has windows down both sides, and no 4wd.

Thanks for the update - I never noticed when you first posted this Pic...
- What is the "adapter" - "QUIGLEY - GM" and is that a GM TC ( you may have mentioned in an earlier post )?
... senior moment - LOL

It’s a quigley adapter , they just remove the 2wd tail shaft from the 700r4 and put on there own adapter and a spud shaft. The van uses a bw 1345 manual shift t-case.the key to this van is saving all part numbers etc , quigley is amazing with there records , a vin number and if it’s in there system they have all the part numbers etc . I can go and take a few pictures of the underside to give a idea! If your local feel free to come and check it out , I would like to make a kit but not sure if there is enough interest.sure wish the Astro van was still in production . You can get coil mounts , track bar etc from ruff stuff that only leaves axel brackets etc .

I wish I was close by, thanks for the offer. Ya kit would be nice but same as you I dont think enough interest. I build some AWD motor mounts to lift up a 5.7 v8 to clear the front axle with a stock pan, same boat dont think enough intrest to make some and offer them. I was even told " AWD v8 astros are old hat".

If it was available for a decent price, I could see quite a few sales. If it's $12-20k for a 4x4 conversion for our vans, it's not going to happen. Now people driving around in $100,000+ RVs might pay that price, but it's not for this crowd.

On the other hand if you had a kit that used a common front axle, stock 4x4 case/trans at a reasonable price for people driving a van that is worth ~$4k there would be a lot of interest IMO.
The biggest limiting factor is that stock AWD vans already exist for the 99.9% of people that want all four wheels powered and can be converted to 2spd 4x4 for $100-200 worth of junk yard parts.

Well said astrowill, this is the same reason they are slowly cutting the offerings for astros /safaris, Poptops etc ! Awd with t-case swap and your pretty set . Thanks for journey off road and only a few others there are some good parts available .

Having some mimeographed copies of Full Quigley Parts Data ...
- would benefit a few "Adventurers" on the site and for the Future.

I wish I could get near one - "Can you say a Thousand pictures" is better than 1 word.
