Multi Versatility Build

Postby astrolocksmith [OP] » April 26th 2021, 5:16am

Hello everyone. Just got my astro a few months ago. Have been wanting one for many years but the mileage has been really high. Finally found a low mileage in great condition.

Repairs I have done...
-Fuel pump

Did a ton of mods already

Mods im thinking about to do next... Driver seat swivel
Mods I do not want to do.... Solar

Can you guys suggest what else I should add/tweak?

Here is the video, hopefully it's not seen as spam as Im not trying to sell/promote anything.

Thank you! Had the idea in my head but never thought it would work out. Once I got the van... I slowly started putting it together and i was surprised it worked out. Lol!! Customers are shocked when they see it.

Not an update to the van but to my harbor freight height adjustable roller seat. Will allow me to fit a bit better inside. As you see in video, I have to bring my head down a bit. Left is the original wheel, right is the upgrade.

Just to edit post. Im such an idiot....Forgot to check the max weight limit per wheel. Its 33lbs and the seat uses five wheels. So 165lbs max weight. Im 200lbs!! I had to order a bigger wheel at 1.5 inches and they are max 77lbs per wheel. Should hold me up perfectly fine.

Mine HF adjustable roller seat ended up cracking right where the thin metal top is welded on, the part that the seat cushion screws to. It will get fixed, just need to get a thicker piece of metal for the top.

I like the idea of smaller wheels for inside the van, would like to do that to mine but I use it in the garage and smaller wheels will lock up on any small debris.

Astro... Common issue for those to break. The secret is to sit right in the center. I broke two right away and noticed I was sitting on the edge of the seat. Now when I sit down, i make sure im right in the middle. Haven't broken my last chair in over a year.

Guilty as charged, I'm sure I wasn't sitting directly in the center.

Watched your video, love the build!

CopperFiremist; Thank you. Have never thought about a high top. Goal is to have it go into my garage. Seems like I have about 4 inches of clearance. I wanted one of the newer vans with higher tops but I would freak out leaving all my equipment in a van parked outside.

Ok, got the smallest wheel that can still support my weight. This wheel give me about 1.25 inches extra head room.

Forgot to mention in video...if you see a slight flickering of your LED lights every once in a while... Add an extra ground to the circuit. I did this and the flickering went away and the lights became brighter. Probably due to the gauge wire I used to run them.
