98' AstrolTiki Camper Van Conversion Project

Postby fellowtraveler [OP] » July 22nd 2021, 5:50am

Finally, after many design course corrections :banghead: and numerous scroll saw cuts , got my replacement wall panels installed today. Behind them lies a layer of sound deadener, a layer of foam insulation and a layer of reflectix as a vapor barrier. No drilling or screws were used to install them. Replaced the seatbelt bolts with 100mm eyebolts (which help to fasten the top edges) and used cordage and zip ties to attach to lower portions to the square tube metal bracing the conversion company installed to add rigidity to the side walls when they cut the 3 giant windows into the original cargo van walls (one of the only things they did right) for the obscenely ridiculous 12K they added to GM's 20K base price of the van

The cordage hanging loose will serve as lashing points for my modular bed frame. Panels got 3 coats of poly buffed to a smooth matte finish with 000 steel wool - painted the reverse (window facing sides) with dark brown paint. The panels install in 10 minutes and uninstall in less. Next Up - the bed, storage, small sink, iceco reefer, lighting, sound system, off-grid electronics and ceiling!

Last but not least - Many Alohas to IronCloudMetalWorks for their awesome passenger seat swivel base  that now swivels within the AstrolTiki Van!
