The white wench and Philomena, my '97 meets my new to me '93.
She goes by the nick Phil my bride gave her because of the escapade my son and I went through to bring her home. My oldest works for a towing company so he got me a deal on a flatbed to go get the '93. $500 for the truck and fuel out to Lancaster PA and back to Danbury CT. Seeing as it was going to be a daytime run he got the new truck not generally used unless they are overwhelmed with calls or they want to make a showing like at the Porsche dealership. A few weeks ago they got new GPS systems, fancy stuff that deals with dispatch and call management, which is cool, but this one had not been set-up for the truck yet and all the avoidances were set for default values. Toll roads, parkways, underpasses less than 14',,,, we found ourselves driving through downtown Philadelphia. Not fun on potholed one-way streets that were originally built for the width of two horses butts. That's how she came to be known as Phil.
Phil is now registered, passed emissions w/ a new gas cap. I did an oil change and air filter beforehand. The truck sat more than drove, does the puff of smoke at startup and the oil smelled like fuel. I used a qt. of Lucas, a stop leak they sell for oil, a qt. of Duralube and topped off w/ 5w30.
The trans needed fluid, topped that with the Lucas trans medic stuff till I can get to a proper flush and filter.
CT doesn't do a safety inspection any more but I changed the wipers, found the washer hose needs repair and the headlights need to be aligned. All the other lights are working and the rubber is good.
Lots of little things need be done. The FSM came in today all I need now is the weather to co-operate and a little time to get started.
A full tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I'm a little up in the air as to whether I'll try any aftermarket performance parts like the MSD ignition or not but the bare minimum will be AC Delco.
The stereo is relatively new but needs to be wired properly. (Confused speakers)
The steering is a touch loose. I'll give the box an adjustment and see what happens, having a spare van it won't be a big deal if it goes south and I need to wait for parts.
The steering column is loose, the four bolts at the bottom of the tilt and the part the gearshift rotates with are flaky., not bad but they won't improve on their own. I've been in there on an S10 so I'll manage. I've got a new 14" 3 spoke wheel to go on so that can't wait.
The oil cooler lines leak so those need replacement.
Hey CM, I'm hoping you would be so kind as to post up info for HPTuners, which software, where to find the cable any notes you may have made sure would be helpful.
In the hotrodding the 4.3 thread someone posted a riser for the throttle body and a "shim" for the jets, any idea where to find these goodies?
I think the EGR is sticking because the SES come on on the highway and shuts off at restart I'll try blocking the EGR on this one and see if it throws a code. If it does I'll do like my '97, clean screen and any other goodies that run to the intake get capped at the intake and vented down and out.
With luck I'll be able to afford paint this year, we'll see what the summer brings. Things like the visors are old and stiff to move, bits of interior that need attention but it's all there plus a little more that Scott picked up and gave me in the deal, to say the least I'm very happy with the deal we made. Scott was aces and I hope the cash makes parting with this gem a little easier.
I'm sure I'll find more as she's an old girl but she's mine.
Did I mention cup holders??? They stink but I have some ideas,,,, Stay tuned.
