Hey...go back to the start of your build thread and re-read your posts. I bet you'll be surprised at how many things you've knocked off your "to-do" list; probably more maintenance and repair than some people have done in 5 years. Lighten up on yourself! Any job goes better if you relax and take the gun away from your head!
As for the J/Y....next time bolts give you grief, consider doing something counter-intuitive and SNAP the S.O.B.'s off! Just sayin....
Move along....all is well.....return to your homes.....nothing to see here.

Re: 2000 AWD Cargo. The van i always wanted

Postby jrsride2002 [OP] » December 8th 2014, 1:11am

I made a cut in the floorboard, for the fuel pump access door. Had to cut access door down some also, it was to tall to fit. It was bottoming out on the top of the tank. Still have to order a new pump, but the tricky task of this job, is done. Have to figure out how to mount it still. I don't have a pop rivet gun like CargoCrawler, manly because I dealing with pop rivets in general. But im in no rush. I'm sure I'll get it figured out.

Image

Also, donno if I want to keep the rubber mat, or toss it in the garbage.....

Image
I do know, i've got year of dirt and rust to clean up from underneath it.... Yay.... A little POR 15 will patch that up

I didn't get a picture of it, but I finally modified(I.E. cut the shroud enough) the new e-fans, to fit along the radiator. Now I'm just waiting on the radiator hose adapters to get back from a co-worker, because I don't have a drill press. Then I will buy a new upper and lower rad hose, cut up the upper hose for the adapters, and replace the lower because it's REALLY soft.

Over all, a very accomplishing day,

Well, I called around. Non of my LAP stores had the Accel ignition coil in stock, so I ordered it and a new Gatorback.
Still trying to get this thing started, without ether/gas down the intake.

Here's to hoping,

With some good hard sealant you could probably just glue that door to the floor. Not silicone, but maybe something like liquid nails. Or perhaps just a harder breed of polyurethane. Don't forget to notch the door frame for the hoses.

Good advise. Liquid nails is something I have laying around, I'll use it and let you know.
As for the hoses and wiring, I cut about 1/2" - 3/4" off the bottom of the hatch. Still a snug fit around the wiring, but with the natural indentation of the fuel tank, it works perfectly with the hoses. I made my cut lines at a 1/2", but I didn't(still don't) have a good way to steady the hatch as I was cutting. So there is some variance, and i'm ok with that. As long as everything works well, it can look as [email protected]$$ as it wants. Nobody/Few people will see what it is all about.

Installed my new coil, still not firing over. Will only operate off ether... More research/reading to be done. See if I can figure this out. Got her to backfire through the intake, due to ether(i think). :banghead:

If it'll run on ether, you have fire. What you DON'T have is fuel. Either your filter is clogged, your pump is toast, the wiring garness is burned, the ECM-B fuse is blown or the fuel punp relay is dead.

I believe you. I just replaced the pump, but NOT the filter. That'll be my next purchase. SHOULD check the fuel pump relay and fuse.
Thank Leeann

Did you make the floor cut without removing the tank? If so what did you use to cut it and not make sparks? I definetly want to do this to both my vans so I no longer have to pay someone to change my pumps....

Hey Kenny,
Been reading a bunch of your postings as well. Thanks for your contributions

Yes, I did leave the tank in. I DID MAKE SPARKS! I was not worried, I spent half an hour, smelling my pilot hole in the van. Making sure there was no fuel leak. Once I was satisfied, I used a hole saw bit to help me locate the locking ring. For the actual cutting, I used a 4-1/2" angle grinder. I was using the safety guard as a limiter, so I was not cutting into the plastic tank with the sparks. I didn't cut the tank, however I did cut the electrical lines to the fuel pump. :banghead:
Wired it, soldered it, and shrink wrapped it. Job all done

If you use an angle grinder, make sure you keep the cutting wheel shallow. I was about 1/4" deep, more then enough to cut through the flooring.

Hope this makes sense. If not, hit me up, i'll try to explain better,

Brand new Walbro means exactly nothing.

I'd never put anything other than an AC Delco or Delphi pump into mine; aftermarket pumps fail that often - and often are dead on the shelf.

When you plugged in the new pump, did you look at the vehicle side of the wiring harness? Closely?

I think I found my issue. I may have wired it up incorrectly, when I was reconnecting wires :banghead:

jrsride2002 wrote:For the actual cutting, I used a 4-1/2" angle grinder. I was using the safety guard as a limiter, so I was not cutting into the plastic tank with the sparks. I didn't cut the tank, however I did cut the electrical lines to the fuel pump. :banghead:
Wired it, soldered it, and shrink wrapped it. Job all done...

What I found out, is the pump is priming and functioning perfectly. But in stead of when the key goes into "ON", the pump is not priming the system. When the key goes to "OFF", the pump starts to prime.... So i'm going to have to look at the schematics and sort this, mistake of mine, out. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

But at least I found out that issue... May have not needed a coil after all :poke:
Still would have needed it sooner or later, might as well get it out of the way. Going to order the ICM when I get some more funds.

Thanks Leeann. I'll make my updates as I go,
~Junior

No problem.

Just double-check your work before you button it up - it would suck to open it up again.

You would have needed a coil soon - if you didn't already. Quite possible the old one was fading anyway.

Yes, I feel the same way. I am strongly believing that EVERYTHING on the van is from the factory line..... So, it's going to take more time(and money) to get it up and running to a point where I will then start modifying it to the potential glory i have in mind.

Well, with the hatch installed, it wont be a big deal... The problem is, I did button up the wiring, the correct way... So now I have to take a few steps back, to get it right :screaming:

OK, Need help....
My wires are color matching(Green to green, black to black) however, I don't know which wires I got crossed.

I can only think the grey w/ black stripe, and/or the black w/white stripe are crossed. Would the black w/ white be the ground wires? If so, then those would be fine, it would have to be the grey wires. Wouldn't it?

Those are the two same colored wires that go to both plugs. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the sending unit?

Thanks,
~Junior
