Super-Astro-Smurfen -88 Project

Postby Super-Astro-Smurfen [OP] » October 19th 2010, 8:05pm

This is going to be a long time project, i think. Plans are as follows:
Swap the v6 to a 350 v8. A bit lower in front and rear. Fix the rust in both the frame and body. New paint. Put in a fairly good sound system.
I have started the tear down and here is some pics:

More pics! The frame was a bit worse than I thought  This is where the anti-roll bar is mounted. Only a couple of threads to hold the bracket.

My "dream design" is gold metalic (from volvo s60) with ghost flames and maybe metal flake on the roof.

Aha, 451 Maya Yellow pearl. Then it will not look 100% like the Volvo paint. I think Volvo only had that color one year, because the aftermarket paint manufacturers could not make one that matched.

Remember to not mix paint brands if you select 451, they look different.

Here is a long overdue update on my project. I have test fitted my 350 in the frame with my modified motor mounts. I have also
tried to get the holes to the subframe bushings to look a little nicer by some welding. Now is the subframe ready to be sandbalasted
and powdercoated.

"it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it"

Today I started blasting the frame to get rid of years of rust and dirt, It is both time consuming and hard labor to get into all the
hard to reach places. And of course i found more rust holes so I have to do some more welding before powder coating. I also found out that
not all of the factory welds are nicely done :o

I dig car projects that get taken down to the frame..

Suprised to see that factory weld looking that way. Do they do them by hand? I would have thought it was done by robot.
