so being i havnt gotten ANY feedback i think i am just going to fiberglass the origilnal dash basically the way it is other than the gauges in which im going to set up and fiberglass in place. im also going to do the entire interior trim in fiberglass as well. not sure when and what order but its going to happen. after everythings said and done i am going to paint it all white with black accents. will post pics when done.

I think you're right on the name,he's kinda hit or miss coming here though, the dash and doghouse looked sweet though. He was the first one that came to mind, and the reason for the "patience" to the OP, lol

Re: Fiberglass Dashes!!

Postby webcat » July 30th 2009, 6:04am

Flat panel dash , i got the idea from a Flat panel TV
i cut the dash back on my 1988 chevy van to make more room to get to my engine but i never did finish it because i ended up replacing the van with a 1996 full size express van , so then i started to do it to my new van (the 1996 express ) but i could'nt because there was a big metal brace going from the drivers side all the way to the passenger side and it looked like it was going to be too much work !
The 1988 would be real easy!
The dash used to hang over the engine quite a bit before i modified it!
the picture is a before picture (before i cut my dash ) unfortunatly i dont have a picture with the dash cut back but you get the idea!

I don't like Ford engines but I sure do like the distributor placement being in front.

I always kind of liked it in the rear , do you work on it from under the hood alot?
Or mayby your dash hangs over the distributor too much making hard to get to?

My dash doesn't hang over it very much at all. And no, I don't do a lot of work from under the hood. I just like the idea of the distributor being out of the heat that is trapped in the doghouse area. I think we wouldn't have as many distributor cap problems as these vans have.
