Bully Liner Spray on

Bully Liner Spray on

Postby nosxjeep [OP] » February 10th 2017, 5:51pm

I did a few varied searches and resorted to scrolling through posts, but didn't find what I was looking for.

Which is... a good carpet replacement in the form of a spray on bed liner.

I've read about VOCs and also NOT insulating, but then I saw Bully Liner:
http://www.bullyliner.com/about-us.html

Seems like it may be a good solution for no VOC and being environmentally friendly (I believe in the sense that they use recycled tires), but from their repair video it looks like it may be a bit soft.

I don't want to have a thicker floor rather a tougher, easier to clean floor that also insulates a bit and keeps out mold, etc.
I may eventually want to put a tougher LineX or something on the bottom exterior, but I'm not worried about that for now.

I guess I'm just curious about opinions and experiences with spray on liners on the interior.

Thanks for any input or links to conversations!

I've seen this:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3769
and Lump's 3M, but with VOCs on both of these, I'd like to go a different route.

Looking at their website, it looks like good stuff. If you do end up using it, keep us all posted..... I am personally looking for a coating for after I remove my cladding. The Bully Liner looks like it'd be a perfect fit.

I think(?) 3M makes a no-VOC or maybe just low-VOC variant. There's a dozen or so different 3M products that are similar but with slightly different something or other.

Are VOCs a concern for you AFTER the stuff has cured? Or is it only during application?

I have done this on my race cars that have had been stripped and seam welded as an affective way to coat the floors and give a nice non slick surface. I actually used rubberized undercoating, not bed liner because it was cheaper. I spray painted them white over the bed liner as I didn't like the black, that's personal preference. works great.

With that being said, have you driven your van with the carpet out before? With exhaust, engine, and transmission mere inches away, that sheet metal can and will get hot enough to give you a decent burn(ask me how I know). I am not sure how you plan on combating this. Perhaps some sort of heat shield on the bottom side of the van? I don't think the bed liner will be thick enough to make this a none issue.

Looking at the Bully Liner website, chuckling at a couple things -

"Only minimal scoffing is required" - I scoffed at scuffing

And isn't the guy in the video "The MILF Hunter from Florida" from the porn flicks?

LOL.. I wish I knew what you were talking about Lump...
But as to the 3M stuff, I'll keep looking because I saw some other low VOC brands out there so you'd figure that 3M would be on top of that.

Thanks TurnNburn, I'll definitely keep heat in mind and perhaps run it on trip with the carpet out to see where my hot spots are. Shielding underneath is probably the best idea (perhaps after an under body coat of something more durable). If the heat is REALLY bad then I wonder about it softening the Bully Liner... Hmmm...

I'm concerned about VOC "gasout" after installation. Though in my area I can leave plenty of ventilation for camping, I would like to be confident in sealing up the van too and not creating pockets of toxic fumes. Low VOC might be fine for a vented van, so I'll keep an eye out for those options as well.

With the Bully Liner, i just love the idea of using recycled tires. Using old tires for insulation has been on my curiosity list for many years, so this struck a bit of a cord.

I'm going to be bedlining my whole van exterior sansdhore biege with the Raptor low voc 1.7 textured stuff this spring ish. I was thinking of using the same for the interior but smooth surface not textured . And its tint able so you can match colors if needed. I'm guessing I will need the 8 liter kit to do the exterior with a good coat and interior with a light coat but I might need more I'll find out..

Seems everybody has there own expectations and results with the bedliner. I've had positive results on a old Cherokee with the raptor stuff so I'm just sticking with what i know works from past experience. Seems there's a few threads on here of people who have also used the raptor lol one guy even said he gained a few mpg which I'm not too sure about ...hard to believe.

There are tons of videos on youtube of people spraying the raptor bedliner, looks like it turns out really good. One guy had a 3 year follow up and it still looked great.

It's OK. It did not stick well to my diamond plating despite having sand blasted it and used adhesion promoter. It sticks great to paint thus far. I did my whole truck in it and half the van. It may say low VOC but that **** is still gonna damn near kill you even with a proper mask and doing it outside. Twice now I thought I was actually gonna die while spraying it. Like I saw black, irregular heartbeat and was vomiting.

Texture depends entirely on how you shoot it. Up close is glossy, further black is matte. Buy 4X as much as you think you're gonna need. No ****. It takes a week to get it from TCP Global and you do not want to run out halfway through...I also did that twice.

Does the texture also depend on air pressure?
I'll be sure I spray it with plenty of fresh air!!!!!

No, not so much. The nozzle in the gun is about 1/4" in diameter and shoots like pornstar spludge. The pressure needs to be pretty high to suck that crap outta the bottle because its super thick and gloppy.

So, no contact to Bully yet, but after this weekend the van should be in stable shape (well, I guess that depends on how hard we hit the trail) and I can focus on next steps.

I've been reading a lot about heat transfer through the floor, so that will be my leading question when I reach out to them to see how the rubber holds up. It's made from recycled tires, so I'm hoping the answer is positive.
