Good air mattress for camping?

Good air mattress for camping?

Postby Hoc [OP] » February 28th 2017, 9:32pm

Hi all, new member, been lurking for a couple months and finally decided to make a profile. Anyways, I plan on using my newly bought van for tailgating races and would like to camp in it, so I'm looking for suggestions for air mattresses. Ideally I'd like one that would allow me to keep the second row seating in place, but if I have to move them every time that's fine. Links to products are helpful!

Welcome!

If you have the traditional rear bench seats, they can fold down flat and scrunch up to each other. I've seen folks use a folding camp table in front of that and have a twin air mattress on top of all that. Since it's already 18" high, you would want a pretty thin mattress.
If you wanna go full monty, check out my build (link below in my signature)... the camper module would be great for tailgating...

Personally, I don't believe there is such a thing as a good air mattress. :) Some are better than others, but they are only a last resort for me. I would much rather have a hammock, cot, sleeping pad, or even a futon mattress instead.

Air mattresses suck because they don't do what regular beds do. However, they are better than nothing. Costco sells a matress right now by the brand of "light speed". It just fits in the back on the floor.

I have this exact mattress its awesome actually made by kelty. It's quality stuff. They also have a thin memory foam mattress that folds up that might be a better option. It in this easy to clean vinyl already and might work better. Costco has a great return policy if it doesn't work out.

Find a Coleman mattress. They are the best and wont leak the longest. I have had one last 3 camping seasons before they go down by morning. Using them a week at a time. And if you get the better higher end one. They have a electric pump to fill them. You want that to. Nothing sucks more than blowing one up. They got battery and plug in the cigarette lighter types.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Asked some camping friends too and they made good recommendations. I think I've got a good idea of what I need.
