Power Seat Motor

Power Seat Motor

Postby OldSchoolNoe [OP] » December 24th 2020, 1:39am

I recently bought a 97 Safari. The driver's seat has power seating but I just noticed that there is no motor under there so the seat can't be moved. Have no idea what the previous owner was trying to accomplish there. I've searched the internet and cannot seem to find a replacement motor, not even Rock Auto sells one. I will be removing the doghouse soon to change Cap&Rotor and the seat is in the way.

JY the only place I'll find a replacement power seat motor?

here is a good chance most of the GM stuff of similar years would use the same motor,....but no guarantees.
Many of the better JY's have interchange books, but I have no idea if something like that would be included.
I once helped a fellow remove a power seat from a dead JY Buick I
(I had many more tools than did he, but he had one I also needed. It was sort of a fair trade) . It was a heavy duty PITA to manually move that power seat linkage, to allow us to get to one bolt.

You should be able to find a motor for that seat on a whole bunch of GM vehicles with 6-way power seats, that basic design was used with minor variations since the 60's.... Those old-school power seats are pretty bullet-proof, so your chances are good of finding one that's working...I would look at Astros, of course, and also full size trucks and suburbans and the like up to about 2004 or 2005 vintage, but any number of other models might have the motor you need....

If you have a 12v or 14.4v power tool battery you can easily add a couple leads with clips ot it and use that to provide power to the seat so you can move it around to be able to get all the bolts...

Good luck!
