Jeep Seatcovers in Astros?

Jeep Seatcovers in Astros?

Postby Lumpy [OP] » October 1st 2012, 3:14am

Anyone own a jeep with those Smittybilt or similar seatcovers with all the pockets on the rear?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CF ... d_i=507846

Any chance they'd fit on an 89 Astro with fixed headrest and two swivel arms?

I've got really nice slip overs in the Jeep, the seat's are similar enough in the van that I bet those would fit. I can measure up the Jeep seats tomorrow if you want.

I have those in my FJ40 Land Cruiser fitted over Smitty's neoprene covers (like $300 in seat covers per seat). They are very adjustable. I can measure tomorrow but I's say they are very likely to fit. They are awesome covers. I bought all sorts of extra bags to put on them. Those American flag patches have velcro on them too...in case the Chinese invade and you need to quickly slap a red star on there and squint so as to avoid detection.

:banana-parachute: :violence-rocket:

They should work with arm rests since the covers are open on the sides, just a few velcro straps go across there:

Image

And the top portion is also just a single strap so it has quite a bit of height adjust-ability:

Thanks Jack -

I'd like to see more pics of your FJ40... :bouncy:

Looks like you've done the predictable fine job tweaking that truck, as you have your RasRo.

Sorry it's late morning. Didn't get Mrs. Boss home from the airport till nearly 1 AM.

I measured the 98 TJ and the Astro seats, there very close in the measurments. Seeing the tactical covers are not slip overs like the CoverKing covers in the Jeep, I see problem with them fitting.

Here they are installed. Coyote tan.

Image

Each seat cover comes with several mountable bags. All use the MOLLE mount system, can be configured any way you want.

Image

Image

They weren't a "perfect" fit for my Astro seats. They expected a thicker seat back, front to back dimension, than the Astro has. My seats are OEM blue with a tan slip on seat cover over them. The arm rests are obviously still blue. To make the seat back thicker, I installed a layer of one inch thick foam under the tan seat cover (not visible in the pics), AND I added a folded blanket to the BACK of the seat, under the new Jeep seat cover.

Image

The MOLLE accessory bags and pockets install anywhere on the back of the seat cover, or on the sides or the front of the seat. It's pretty infinitely configurable. The red/pink camo thing on the floor is my recyclable grocery shopping bag. The plumbing pipe, camo thing is a fold up/down laptop stand.

When you buy two seatcovers from SummitRacing, you get a free "Tailgate Organizer". That's a similarly MOLLE equipped rectangle piece, designed to mount on the tailgate of a Jeep, with several MOLLE organizer bags included with that as well.

Overall a very good addition/purchase. The seat covers are made of nylon ripstop pack cloth. Seem much more durable than any other kind of seat cover I could imagine. More durable than most seat fabric, I'd imagine. Not difficult to install, just had to add some padding to fill out the thickness of the Astro seat back. Now I've gotta find a bunch-O-stuff to fill up all the organizer bags.

I don't think the would fit my TJ much better, the seats are pretty near the same thickness as the Astro.

The look great.

Very Nice!
Would love to see some pics of the tailgate cover. I thought about picking one of those up awhile back. I like those seatcovers too. Looked for something like that with pockets for my astro and wound up with some camo, yes camo, covers from Cabella's. They have seatback pockets but nowhere near as nice as those Smittybuilts.

Also, I really hope you've got that corded phone thingy somehow hooked up to your cell phone.

Here tis. The cover, the molle mount thing, is simply a rectangle with all the molle webbing loops. It's apparently the right size for a jeep tailgate but just a couple inches too wide for an Astro rear door. So in this spot, behind the driver, I simply zip screwed it to the plastic trim. The two bags in the pic came with it. All the bags are really high quality. I went around with suture scissors and cut off all the little tags that read "CHINA".

That's a helluva deal for free. Those two bags look bigger and nicer than the ones that come with just the front seat cover. I bought mine one Amazon, so no free tailgate cover or bags. I wonder how well that would attach to the headliner between the front seats? Smitty makes and overhead console piece like this but it's expensive. This might serve a similar purpose in the van for no extra cost!
