door clips

door clips

Postby lafam1 [OP] » May 13th 2014, 2:03am

Ok so Ive taken my door panels off so many times my clips are half broke. Dealer says they are discontinued. Auto stores have nothing. Even the inserts in the door for the clips are bad. :banghead: It looks like its more the door inserts than the clips.
I know auto stores carry some but mine are long and thin.

Any one have an alternative for this problem?

Thanks

Auto body paint supply place can order them if they don't have them there in stock. Big book goes all the way back to Model T. I get chevelle stuff all the time and they got it on the rack. I seen van stuff there to.

Here's a link to a supplier I've used many times. They seem to have everything for interiors & such. Even if they don't have exactly what you need you can find something real close it you search around.

I think this is what you're after.

You can try drilling a pilot hole and attaching door panel with trim screws. proly long ones 'cause panel isn't flush with door on gen II's. just be careful not to tighten to much or you'll crack the plastic door panel.

Gen I's use this retainer on the card/fiber board panels

If i'm not mistaken this is what you have, by the way you described them.
These are the for the gen II's with the plastic door panels. Part# 15960325 @ the website Astro Pop posted link to, ebay or an auto paint place chevymaher mentioned.

I purchased the correct ones on ebay and got 20x of both the clip and retainer for less than $5.00

I went old school on mine. Just about all the plastic stuff was broken on mine when I got it so I took a short piece of lightweight aluminum angle, screwed it onto the bottom of the door, inside of where the panel meets it. Then put the panel back on and drilled into the angle through the bottom of the panel and put two more long screws into them. Tight as a drum skin and easily removable. Plastic is just gonna break its the nature of the stuff so why keep playin with it?

Thanks for all the ideas guys!
I am going to use the screw method. There are some nice boat washers that are stainless steel that look pretty good. They look like a cup effect and they use them for nice trim look on boats. 3 on the bottom 1 on each side should do it.
Thanks All. :ty:
