Steering wheel

Postby Astrodamus [OP] » January 11th 2010, 8:27am

I was wondering could I switch my 98 steering wheel with a steering wheel from any Cadillac truck

This is what I'm shooting for:

98 GMC Chrome Composite Grill with Caddy emblem

Caddy steering wheel

'96 DeVille Taillights
98 ASTRO EXTENDED CARGO VAN 4.3L V6 FI OHV 12V

would depend on if you want to keep your airbags or not...it might be possible to swap wheels and keep the airbags, i don't know many people who have swapped their steering wheels and kept the airbags...if you aren't concerned about the airbags, i would recommend comparing a junkyard column with yours to see if the steering wheels would interchange...maybe someone else will chime in who may have done a similar swap...

If I remember to try this, the next time I am in the junkyard, I will pull the steering wheel off of both vehicles and see if they match up. But the other day when I pulled my horn button off (non-airbag van) I discovered text molded into the center of the wheel that says, "M-VAN ONLY" which I assume to mean that the columns on our vans are different from the ones on full sized trucks.

I must be missing something here. Does the steering wheel from the Cadillac also have an airbag? Either way, it should work just fine. GM has always been good about using the same splined-shaft on all of their vehicles.
