carpet and stuff for '86

Hey all, I'm the owner of a fairly unusual Astro. It's a 1986 five speed. From what I know they didn't make a lot of 'em, and while I'm using it as an everyday commuter car, I would like to fix it up and maybe even make it show car ready over time. The guy I bought it from replaced a lot of the carpet (beige) with really awful brown and yellow polyester indoor outdoor stuff....and I'm looking to replace it. Trick is, I haven't found any ready made with the hole for the shifter...the '86 5 speeds were so few that I don't guess it was worth producing aftermarket items. Any ideas?

I'm also going to be tackling the headliner which is saggy, torn, sifting a fine powder of long-since dry-rotted foam down on my head, and really, really ugly. I've printed out the instructions from this board and one of these days just gonna put on a mask and set to. Anyone ever do any this old?

Dash and door panels are warped...not aawful, but if I could find replacements I'd be happy.....

For the carpet, I would assume you could just buy a standard carpet set for the astro and just cut a hole for the shifter ( Of course carefully). I am gonna buy a complete black set off of ebay soon to replace my blue carpet. They do get kind of expensive though for the engine cover, passenger piece, and cargo area set. Does look like a nice piece though.

find out if that came with the piece that goes over the dog house when you get it.

Order a standard carpet set, pull out your old one and use it as a template to cut the hole in the replacement...

No it was not that they were rare. Because your van was.
When you buy carpet there is just no shifter hole.
Chevelles Novas and camaros if you buy preformed carpet there is no hole. Almost every single one of them have a floor shift being a auto or a manual. Not many people leave it on the column it that is where it started.
I agree lay the new carpet face down. Lay the old on top face down. It will cut out easily with a razor knife. So easy you wont believe it.

it may be rather expensive but if you buy the clear carpet runners and cover the new carpet it will stay nice for a while.
