What is this tube attached to my rear storage compartments?

What is this tube attached to my rear storage compartments?

Postby ilikeyourvan [OP] » April 23rd 2015, 8:07pm

This is my first post here, hi!
I have a '92 Safari. I am removing the side panels in the back to make more room for the bed I am putting in, but I found that one of the panels on each side has a tube which leads from the floor of the van to the inside of the storage compartment in the panels. Nobody I have asked has had any idea what they might be and I've been driving myself crazy looking for the answer on the internet.
What are these tubes for and how can I move them somewhere else without hurting the van? I added a pic of one of the panels and another one of where the tube ends inside the compartment.

Thoose are the coolers. And those are the drains for the ice when it melts.

Ice and beer or pop, sandwiches and your ready for a long trip as a passenger.Law wasn't quite as retarded when these were built only the driver had to be sober back then.

Yup, that. My '93 has 'em. They're a little small for my taste, though ;)

Those are contraband sniff ducts. They allow drug/contraband sniffing K-9s to snif what's in your van by just sniffing the rear corners. World order illuminati black helo's and all that.

2nd, 3rd time... As was mentioned already

I also have a 1992 LT and it has two of them. I recently pulled both of them out of The Van ( along with everything else ) and cleaned inside & out. Reinstalled them w/o the tubing - it just pulls off/out from both ends - no prob.

The Coolers are insulated somewhat, but cannot simply be pulled out to fill or empty - hence the drains, which go out around the back of both wheels humps with a kinda' 1-way nipple under the van. I intend to use the nipple on the Passenger side to route my Trailer Hitch elecs. outside for the plug.

To be honest, it wasn't too long ago - I found out they WERE coolers. We just used them for storage, shells, rocks and stuff while travelling around. And to beat all, we have owned The Van for over 20 years. LOL

and - Welcome to the Forum, Marlene

Mike

ps: Have fun and ask away !! And thanks for the Photos !!
Well, after all... what would Banacek say ?... “AOC - her astonishing matryoshka-like ignorance, like the rest of The Squad is surpassed only by the relentless idiocy of the democrats, antifa & it’s attendant mass media, mayors & governors.”
