Overhead console install

Overhead console install

Postby dafrogtoad [OP] » May 4th 2008, 7:04am

I have just aquired a full length overhead console. I was told that it will fit in my '94. What I was wondering is A.) if it will install (at the back end) in the same fastener holes left by my current dome light's removal. B.) is there someone out there who could post a pic or 2 showing where the forward end mounting areas are? Perhaps a cargo van w/o a headliner? I have a VERY nice headliner that i really don't want to remove OR hack up real bad "looking" for the fastener 'holes" I hope are there, but unused, from the factory...Am i being too hopefull here? ARE the places to screw in the new overhead already there?
Also. the new console has a computer type display at the front end. Will I be able to get this working even tho the van didn't have the console in the first place?

Thanks

Thanks for reposting the headliner removal procedure. It's nice, but I really DON"T want to remove the headliner.
Are there any pics out there of a van with the headliner removed?...

I'm not sure, but I would assume this matters, is if your van is the longie or the shorty.

I have a 97 cargo that I could take some pictures from but I dont know if its the same or not.

Any time you P&P stuff, get the BARCKETS..even if you are not sure or don't think you will need them, same cost either way (brackets or none) and if you break the ones you have...back ups! :banghead:

i have the headliner console off a 92 and i put it on my 98 , and the head linger is slightly different, so i just cut out a hole off the new headliner, did a **** job,
on the console, you should have a back bracket of the console, like a piece of back plate of the size of the console.
just mount that plate on the metal and you're set,
do you want the measurement of the headliner hole off my 92 ? it was oem cut,

the dome light will work,
what do you have on your console??? does it have a socket with orange and white wires?
you have to make your own mounting holes.

Re: Overhead console install

Postby tx-x » June 7th 2008, 5:08pm

Jumping on board here. I just grabbed a console from a '98 to put in my '05. Just holding it up to "eyeball" it, it looks like it will be a perfect fit as far as following the contour of the headliner. I did not get that rear bracket either (tried, but screws were a $%^# to come out). I can get it though, so that will be okay. My questions are:
1. Are there screw holes that match up in the front?
2. Will the wiring harness/clips already be there for me to just hook up?
3. What all is displayed on the LED readout, and are there other sensors needed for it to work?
Thanks.

I'm waiting until I get back from an extended trip. I guess I'll jsut have to remove the headliner and hope for the best. I have to get he wiring for the moonvisor done anyway. I'm also thinking of a guage pod, so there will be good reason to wait and do it all at once.
Anyone got an extra set of brackets?.....
