Flocking

Another quick update to the ongoing restoration of my little 96 van.

As per another thread, the van is in the transmission shop getting some other work done on a borked gearbox, so im using the down time to get the instrument IP refinished.

The top part of the IP is fine and is in good condition, but alas some gimp here in the UK decided to fit new switches and drill holes everywhere in the dash plastics and engine dog house cover trim So i have plugged all of these and will fit the new switches in proper locations and match them all up.
The radio modifications are now complete, with a 2din unit and cradle properly mounted in the dash surround panel,

So i took everything out when the van went to the shop, door trims off as well.
They are now at a small motorsport specialist here in Northamptonshire getting flocked in 2 tone grey.
The instrument binnacle and center part of the dog house trim are going to be dark grey, the lower kick panel and outer edges of the dog house trim are going to be light grey to match the rest of the interior. I should have them back in 2-3 weeks so when its all back together i will take some pictures for yawwl
The whole point of it is that someone had painted the grey trim with some spurious paint and it looked truly awful and tacky. the only part they hadnt done was the dash top which is still original finish.

Cant wait to get it all back in March and start putting it back together ready for the summer fun to start

Flocking in my mind has always been glue applied then fiber dusted over with the excess removed after the glue dries.
Are you doing this or using sheet goods?

If you glue one of those sheets to a wall panel, then butt another sheet up against the first sheet...Well, never mind.

Put glue on a surface. Put fibers onto the glue. Let it dry. Blow off any loose fibers.

Now you have a textured finish...like the old-time dash pads. Or the wallpaper that had swirls of fabricky/fibery stuff on it.

Use several different flock media colors (colours for you Brits) and make a painting of Elvis or dogs playing poker. Make a bunch, load them up in your Lorry, take them down to the boot sale and rake in a few quid.
