Um anyone here ever install a newer dash gauge assembly

Postby markmitch [OP] » May 1st 2016, 9:29pm

Just curious if anyone here has installed either a newer gauge assembly from an Astro/Safari into an 89 or maybe used a set of gauges from maybe an S-10 or olds bravada into an Astro/Safari? If so what fits easily into an 89? (89 has electronic speedometer no cable)

What I've found that you have to be the most wary of is the electrical connector in the back. The last generation had a much smaller connector than the 98 I drive, otherwise I'd be running with a much newer cluster ( which also had integrated LED lights instead of the micro bulbs.
A temporary fix usually becomes a permanent solution, therefore it does not exist.

Hey Mark,

I'm not sure if the 1st gens changed at all, but if your gauge back looks like this you should be able to swap in a '94-95 round gauge set w/o any problems.

This is what my '91 looked like:
