Uh oh dead BW4472

Uh oh dead BW4472

Postby Astro Pop [OP] » June 20th 2018, 9:53pm

My transfer case has what I believe is a bad chain, a thumping noise, and I can't find a new chain. Any suggestions? This is my 2nd used case. Any used one just has too many miles on them. HELP!

Try these guys.

I my last rebuilt one done by them.

http://www.transfercases.com/

Or you might try ABC auto parts. http://www.abcautoparts.com/

You may have to call them to see if they still have the one that was in my 97 Astro. I don't know how long they hang on to parts but I did tell them it was a newly rebuilt transfer case so if they didn't sell it, they may still have it floating around the yard. The Astro was sent to the yard for scrap but they said they were going to pull the engine (about 30k on it) and the xfer case (about 10K on it)

Thanks for the tips, guys. So far all have said SOL. No one even has a suggestion as to what to try next. Is there another TC that'll go in there? With mine being a 1996 AWD I don't have the electrical prewired in for one of the newer 4WD cases. Any other options?

I've heard of people doing the newer xfer case and a manual wiring switch to switch to AWD.

try these guys for chains?

and here.

https://www.powertrainproducts.net/Borg ... /tc101.htm

Both websites say "instock" however you would have to buy the whole rebuilt xfer case.

One last option is to start calling GM warehouses. I did when I was looking for a specific part.. Doing the online look up I found this.

https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/chev ... 63558.html

and it shows "available" but that's often incorrect. However if you start calling around, you may find someone knowledgeable in the parts department that knows how to search the GM inventory in other warehouses. I found a LH Sideview mirror old stock, by doing this. Turns out it was sitting on the floor in a warehouse. it was not in the "online" system we can search but it was there. I was very lucky to call them because they were getting ready to do inventory, and start purging a lot of this old stock. I got a brand new mirror with motors, that SF Muni had broken off when they drove by my van and was paying for the repair.

Who knows you might find a chain in one of these old stock warehouses.
