My van does this rumbling thing but only after 50 mph

My van does this rumbling thing but only after 50 mph

Postby lamarieh5154 [OP] » February 23rd 2020, 11:24pm

My van will shift just fine through all gears once it gets over 50mph it rumbles like ur going over mini speed bumps. If I put it in neutral when it starts ... It will stop same as if I just take my foot off the gas. But as soon as I press the gas again and am over 50mph it will do it again

Sounds like you have a trans getting ready to go. I only say that, as the trans in my wife's van started doing that, and about 8 months to a year later it lost 3rd and 4th gear. She limped it home, and I proceeded to pull it and take it to a shop for rebuilding. On hers, it started doing that at 55, but as time went on, it became 50, then the last week it became 45mph that it would start doing that. I suspected the torque converter lock up was kicking on and off, but never was able to verify it. It was 900 bucks to rebuild it though, as it needed a bunch of stuff for 160K miles.
Ok, I didn't realize you had AWD, as that can cause other things to do that as well. By that I mean it could be in the AWD unit hung from the trans, a possible "U" joint, something in the front axle, or even an out of balance front drive shaft (slip yoke even).

I had someone look at it and the leaf springs are completely busted. So I'm gonna fix those and see what happens. But thank u for the feed back. I will keep that in mind though.

Rear trans bushing. Grab the driveshaft where it enters the trans. Side play? You found the culprit. Takes a couple hours to fix if your green.

I was underneath there and no play at all in the rear. But the front shaft had some play in it
