03 awd np233 manual case swap.

My front differential has been making a screaching sound when in 4x4, turning, and accelerating. Drained it out and the fluid was pretty muddy looking. Replaced the fluid and it is acting the same.

Are the front differentials from s-10 blazers the same as long as they are 3.42? Are there codes on the differential itself to tell?

Thanks

The S10 front diffs are the same as ours as are the diffs from the Olds Bravada. Actually the Bravada is identical while the S10 has a two piece passenger side axle that you can swap out with your one piece. Early S10 used a flanged axle and where bolted together. Later ones use the slip in style
There are no markings on the unit itself that will tell you the ratio.
GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
GT4 : AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
GT5 : AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
Here is a list of RPO codes and their corresponding axle ratios. Look for the sticker-it tells all
