Do I need to drop the crossmember?

Do I need to drop the crossmember?

Postby SoccerMom4x4 [OP] » July 23rd 2019, 5:27am

I had a pretty severe misfire that toasted both my cats, with that sorted I now need to replace them. I bought the walker 50526 direct replacement for my 2000 AWD. My question is, do I need to drop my crossmember to get it in into place? If that's the case I think I may cut the pipe and weld it back together in place. Also, can I/should I reuse the donut gasket things or not, are they vehicle specific or universal? Thoughts/opinions? thanks

If the van is high enough you don't need to drop the cross member.
Doughnuts are cheap at the autoparts, change them.

….by "High Enough", I believe Bruce meant if you get it jacked up high enough off of the the floor/ground. You don't need to drop the X-Member to do this; a muffler shop sure as Hell WOULDN'T now, would they? Please be careful under there, make sure it's solidly supported with stands before doing anything!

^^^^^^^^what he said x 2. Be safe, get it plenty high and start early on soaking it in PB blaster. Those connector get really rusty and tight with the constant heat.
