Bought my first astro van with a rebuilt engine and transmission from the factory. It has 300k+ miles on it and 12k on the rebuilts. My floor on both driver and passenger near the engine get really hot to the touch. I can maybe leave my hand there for a few seconds. Is this normal? The flooring was removed and its just metal. I will check the actual temp of the floors tomorrow.
The floor gets real hot! Couldn't lay anything perishable on the floor of AstroSurf, (our Shop Truck), even though the Heat Shields were still all in place.
Really? Mine has been crazy hot ever since I've owned the van - new cat didn't change it, every tune up part has never changed it, I assumed they were all that way.... Maybe just newer ones?
Mine gets hot there too (between seats). I have cupholders on the floor and if I take a long drive any drink get warmed up. I'll have to take a peek if there is any heat shielding there. I know it's on the doghouse cover, but not sure of the floor.
When I got my '01 it had a rubber mat covering the cargo area, and it was actually melted to the floor in one spot. Upon investigation, the spot was directly above the muffler, which had a decent sized hole in it pointing straight into the floor. Mystery solved.
