flowmasters with x pipe

flowmasters with x pipe

Postby HotrodDaddy44 [OP] » September 29th 2012, 4:37am

So I have a 5.7L in my van and single 3 inch fake flowmaster. I'm going to change to a more aggressive camshaft, headers, fuel system and dual exhaust. Has anyone done a X pipe and put the mufflers back by the roll pan instead of in the middle of the van? If so any vids or sound clips.

If still using stock fuel tank, an exhaust pipe on the drivers side will be hard.
Probably won't be able to use spare, if you mount mufflers in the rear.

Well my plan is to run both pipes down the right side. Not really worried about the spare.

A H-pipe may be a better idea. Here is picture of H-pipe & dual exhaust that used to be on my Astro.

Sorry, I forgot you planned on putting mufflers behind axle. With the mufflers in back, plenty of room for X-pipe. Do you have a shorty or extended? May not have room to make the bends to mount mufflers behind axle & in front of the roll pan.

the only issues wil be, avoiding the spare tire and hiding the pipes out the back. if you don't hide the pipes, it won't matter what tips you use, it will look funny. comming out on both sides, beside the hitch should look good. there is enough room in the back of the van to run some shorty mufflers. you could save some money and get a good dynomax dual in/dual out/x pipe muffler and then it's a tip on one side and some added pipe to go to the passenger side and then a tip... 3 or 4 ways to crank out a dual exaust, just remember the tips are ok to see, the pipework isn't

You know those "Big Single" exhausts aren't that bad... My '02 T/A is putting out 375 RWHP with one... My '95 GMC has been running Edelbrock mid-lengths and a three inch Y since 2000. No loss of horse power there and it sure does sound nice with a Pro-Flo and dual pipes out the back.
A three inch head pipe off the headers is plenty of flow for a 350. Dump that into a single in/dual 2 1/2 out muffler and you have a good system with a lot less pipe and money. Unless you have a full on race motor a true dual system isn't really needed and the big single set up automatically gives you an X pipe...

more like 350hp for ls1. a bit more with ram air. i still prefer single over dual exaust. i run a single 3" and a nice stsinless tip. mine is a bit loud, it's sets alarms off...lol.

I have a shorty van and i think your right theres really not enough room to place the mufflers and the roll pan. so I think im going to run them like prostreet did his. Or may leave the single 3 inch flowmaster where it is. IDK i just dont know what a single exhaust and a lumpy camshaft is going to sound like.
