Time to replace muffler

Time to replace muffler

Postby Got To Go [OP] » July 6th 2009, 5:49am

It's getting to be time for a muffler change. I want to get rid of the Giant piece of Junk under the van that GM calls a muffler. I don't want anything loud, but I want something light and reasonably quiet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's a 4.3 L. I am thinking about a MagnaFlo Muffler

flowmaster is a good choice. but i myself would go with cherry bomb. done rite it gives freer flow and not too loud.my children like the flow master and i like the cherrybomb. if you also want to replace your cat checkout http://www.cherrybomb.com and see what kinds of set ups they have. they could give you some ideas. :2:

I could n't see "onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" But I am not very up on computers. I just want to replace that huge piece of metal they call a muffler with something that is lightweight and flows good without a lot of Noise. And Cheap

Flowmaster has the loudest in cab resonance, and is loud. louder than a magnaflow

The local exhaust shop probably has just replacement mufflers that are not stock and don't make a whole lot of noise

you could just do that and a hi flow cat

I have a super 44 flowmaster single to dual and it is LOUD, you could hear me coming from quite a way
Sounds like a v8 though everyone asks

In cab resonance is a big deal with flow masters too the are loud in cab as well

have 40 series on my dodge magnum and it is loud in cab too

also had true duals flowmaster on my 454 dually... way too loud next day changed for single magnaflow, still loud but way quieter

I use a dynomax 27" turbo muffler that isn't too loud, but in retrospect I probably would have kept the stock unit. If you don't want "loud" then you probably want a stock-type unit.

I like the dynomax 27" turbo muffler idea. Should flow pretty good and not too loud. Thanks. Jack

Postby mattsrevenge » July 16th 2009, 9:29pm

im after a muffler that doesnt rust out. my 96 has had 4 mufflers on it since my dad has owned it, and now its my turn to change.

idk really about the sound, just something quality?

have you had troubles with the exh rusting out? usually dies @ exit port on the muffler, or at the drain hole.
ive seen some walker, and flowmasters for ~70$ +, but would like experienced folks to chime in!

thanks

If you want a muffler that doesn't rust, you can't get a factory replacement from any of the fast food places. Remembering that the catalytic converter turns some emissions into water, any of the cheap and thin mufflers will not last longer. Even if the sound stayed the same, you would still be better off putting a flowmaster, magnaflow, etc just because they are built to last.

But on another note, have you thought about sidepipes?

Get a stainless steel muffler and be done with it. Magnaflows are SS I believe. 8-)

MagnaFlow makes a stainless muffler and I don't think the price is to bad. That's what I will put on when I get time. GTG :)

Edelbrock makes some of their mufflers in stainless too! Give them a listen.
