Great post, great find!

Was looking for torque specs for my 2002 Safari AWD. Was about to shell out for a set of shop manuals on ebay.

Although the links referenced above are great information, it is sometimes difficult to read or print; and not particularly convenient when working on the van and needing to reference diagrams etc.
I would strongly recommend watching for a set of shop manuals. They do pop up fairly frequently, and the exact year is not critical ( as long as it is the same generation ).
I found a used set, in slightly used condition, for $20. That was a couple of years ago. I use them regularly...particularly the electrical section.
Trying to follow a wiring diagram is often difficult when you are having to flip pages in printed manual. I cannot imagine trying that on a computer screen! :banghead:

definitely ^that^

I love these documents, tons of useful and fun info. but, my FSM's were in my hands before my van was even delivered. $30 on eBay for an almost-pristine set.

The cheapest I could find the 2 shop manuals for my 2002 Safari on ebay was $200

I was thinking of getting a different year (same gen) FSM, but wasn't sure because of certain things being different like the EGR delete, multipoint fuel injection etc etc.

I have a big old beat up tablet that i usually use for maintenance work. I take a pic of the page on the website or send the file to it, then use the tablet when working. Not ideal tho, and I definitely prefer the book in hand way.

Maybe it's time to put up a post in the wanted section.

holy moly, you're right...2002 is expensive!

I do the tablet n picture thing quite often, it's an eyesight issue, but I'd hate to have to rely on it for everything.

Thanks for posting this. I bookmarked the 2001.
I actually learned some things I hadn't known.
I have 1999 Service Manuals, the 2001 isn't much different, tow stuff, minor things. I got my set for $15!!!

Grab the GM Techline eSI(links in sig), it's the digital FSM, covers everything for your year, and many others.

If you change the year of Astro it will show specs for any year.

I recall finding that some time ago, maybe from GM's website but I don't recall.
Here's for the 97
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/g ... ro-Van.pdf
It's probably shortening the link, but here it is again
gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/AstroVan/1997-Chevrolet-Astro-Van.pdf
That's the year you want to change.
