I use an AutoXray AX2500 CodeScout. It comes with 4 standard cables (OBD II; GM, Ford and Chrysler OBD I) but has an additional GM 16-pin ALDL cable available.

The scanner's on Amazon for $150: http://www.amazon.com/AutoXray-AX2500-CodeScout/dp/B000IX84KC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1253152066&sr=8-1

The additional cable: http://www.amazon.com/AutoXray-AX20211-Specific-Cable-AXR20211/dp/B000RT97PI/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1253152708&sr=1-28 or http://www.amazon.com/AutoXray-AX20211-Blue-OBD-II-Cable/dp/B001OKKU2I/ref=sr_1_42?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1253152819&sr=1-42

I've been really happy with the scanner, using it on my '90 Dodge B250, '93 Bravada, '93 Astro and the bf's '07 Furd work van (work-owned, I swear), plus my friend's '05 Jeep.
