Hard start, sputtering

Hard start, sputtering

Postby ATS666 [OP] » January 27th 2014, 4:54pm

Hi, All

I have a 2002 GMC saffari cargo van 2wd, engine code X

148,000 kms
Tune up was done a year ago (15,000 kms) Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv, fuel filter, air filter, ignition coil.

It starts and stalls 5-6 times before it stays running.
If you stab the throttle it will sputter and pop a few times and then accelerate fully.
Has a code for random cyl misfire

Last week:
Cleaned the throttle body and IAC
Installed a new fuel filter.
Installed a new distributer because one of the mounting tabs was cracked for the cap, also the distributor gear had abit funny wear to it considering it's not a high mileage vehicle.
Cleaned the maf sensor.

Just bought a fuel pressure gauge and hooked it up today (Jan 27 2014)
Fuel pressure koeo is 60 and then drops to 54 and will hold there a long time.
Idling 52 psi
2000 rpm 50 psi
If you stab the throttle psi will spike to 60 and then come down to 50.

Am I safe to assume I need to replace the fuel pump?

Thanks

Fuel pressure is fine so the pump is good.
Read codes and check for dirty connections to sensors.
