Should I add trans cooler to a 2002 Astro w/factory tow pkg?

Should I add trans cooler to a 2002 Astro w/factory tow pkg?

Postby Dollar_Bill [OP] » April 9th 2013, 1:34pm

My 2002 RWD Astro has the tow package withe button on the gear selection stalk for tow/haul mode. Can I assume it had a trans cooler? If so, should I add an external aftermarket?

The answer will always be yes.

Without it, the trans would overheat(while towing). So ANY additional cooling would save you from that headache and financial burden.

Hope that helps,

Uncle Bob, I intend to add the external cooler, thanks.

Do I need to also order the extra parts from Amazon in my above post?

Thank You, Bill

Most external coolers come as kits with just about every thing except fluid. (Unless you are stealing one off a JY truck, Ha.)

I have even used the condensor off an old ice cream freezer refrigeration unit. Works dandy.

Yea, I would start with the cooler kit first. Any other required parts would be a quick trip to NAPA or something like that.

Always yes. Cooler is better. I've thought of doing my power steering with one of these kits
