Tires for towing

Hey guys,

I need new tires for my 2000 Safari and I tow my boat with about 350 lbs tongue weight. Is it worth getting 6 ply or LT tires? The michelins I have now seem to get mashed down a lot. Any recommendations on brand/type would be appreciated.

I am very happy with my Firestone Destination LE2 tires. Towed a Jeep Liberty on a Uhaul car trailer back from Michigan to Maryland (in snow) with zero issues. No smooshing despite towing 6200 lbs, over 500 of that tongue weight.

don't know leeann's tires. a 3 ply sidewall is going to be a lot more stable then a passenger tire. it'll be a bit stiffer ride when empty, but the van will probably handle better.

I went with General Grabber AT2's (215-70-15) and have NO regrets so far. I had a set go 85K on an Express1500 van, even then 2 tires still had some life left. They helped TREMENDOUSLY with body roll, compared to the car tires that were on it previously. Given the aggressive look of the tread, the road noise is VERY surprisingly low.

Forgot to mention, mine replaced nearly-new Michelin P-rated tires the PO put on. The van rolled and waffled all over. With the Firestones (LT tires), the roll, wander and waffle is gone.
